Ghost Tour Near You: US Ghost Tour: Walking in Richmond with group.

Over the weekend, my friends and sister joined me on a spooky evening exploring our local city–Richmond, Virginia with U.S. Ghost Adventures

I was thrilled when they reached out and invited me to join a tour in any city of my choosing. With the holidays approaching and everyone’s schedules getting busier, we decided to stay local and explore our own city while uncovering its haunted history. I loved being able to share the experience with my sister and friends and turn an ordinary evening into something a little more memorable.

Although we didn’t do the tour in October, walking through Richmond in the evening and learning its haunted history made for a fun and interesting night!

In this post, I’m sharing my experience on the tour, what U.S. Ghost Adventures offers, and what to expect—so you can decide if a ghost tour near you is up your alley!

First, what is a ghost tour and would I enjoy it?

What I liked most about the tour was that it wasn’t too spooky. It was definitely less ghost and more storytelling. Our guide, Bryce, was very knowledgeable and shared a mix of local history and ghost stories throughout the walk. He even handed out EMF detectors for us to use as we moved between stops, which added a fun and interactive element to the experience.

There’s no scary pop outs or people chasing you in costumes. It’s not like a haunt at all, but more like an informative walking tour learning about local history with a touch of spookiness!

I am not someone that is super into the paranormal, but I do love a fun, new learning experience, especially in the fall. Since the tour is outdoors and involves walking, it also felt like an active way to explore the city.

Years ago, my family did a U.S. Ghost Adventures tour in St. Augustine, Florida, and it was a fun, family-friendly experience. At the time, my younger siblings were in middle and elementary school, and they enjoyed it as well. That experience made me confident this would be a great group activity again, even in a new city and as we have gotten older.

If a ghost tour is starting to sound like your kind of fun, keep reading to see which cities U.S. Ghost Adventures offers tours in, plus the other haunted experiences they have and exactly what you can expect.

Tours Offered in 250+ Cities

One of the best things about U.S. Ghost Adventures is how accessible their tours are. They offer walking ghost tours in over 250 cities across nearly every state in the U.S., making it easy to find ghost tours near you no matter where you live.

Their tours are research-based and grounded in real historical events, with ghost stories woven into the narrative. There are no actors in costume and no jump scares—just immersive storytelling rooted in local history.

Pub Crawls & Specialty Tours

In select cities, U.S. Ghost Adventures also offers haunted pub crawls. If grabbing a drink while learning about haunted history sounds more your speed, this could be a fun alternative. These tours would be especially great for birthdays or group celebrations.

Overnight Stays

U.S. Ghost Adventures also offer overnight stays in some of America’s most haunted houses. I don’t know if I’d have the guts for an overnight stay….but you might! And in case you do, here are the places they offer overnight stays:

  • The Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, Massachusetts
  • The Historic Jenny Wade Birthplace in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
  • The Villisca Axe Murder House in Villisca, Iowa
  • The Welty House in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

What to expect before the tour

Our tour guide reached out about 30 minutes before the scheduled 8:00 p.m. start time to confirm the meeting location. While this may vary by city, it was helpful to have a direct contact in case we had trouble finding the group.

Your official meeting location will always be included in your booking confirmation email after purchasing tickets.

What to Expect During the Tour

Expect to walk quite a bit. The tour includes multiple stops throughout the city, each with its own story and historical background.

We booked the extended tour, which added four additional stops for a total of six. One of my favorite stops was the Edgar Allan Poe Museum, which brought back memories of visiting it in high school when we studied his poems around Halloween.

If you enjoy history, storytelling, and learning about your city from a different perspective, this style of walking ghost tour is a great fit.

Tips for your Tour

Here are some tips before you go on a tour.

  • Wear comfortable shoes as it will be a lot of walking
  • Book in the fall around Halloween. Not only will the weather be nice, but it will also get you in the spooky spirit. If you live somewhere that gets very cold in the winter or very hot in the summer–keep this in mind as this is outdoors!
  • Book the extended tour. Why not see and learn more history while you can and have the time!
  • Make it a festive evening with your friends and family. I believe the tours usually take place later in the evenings around 8 p.m. Make it a fun night out and have dinner or grab a cocktail with your friends before you go!

How to Book A Tour:

The walking tours typically cost $26 for adults, $17 per child under the age of 13, and free for children under the age of six.

To book the Richmond Tour:

All in all,

If you are looking for something fun and festive to do with a group of people that is not too scary, I’d recommend a walking ghost tour with U.S. Ghost Tours. It is highly likely that if you are reading this, you have one close to you! The tour lasted about an hour and a half with the extended tour addition. If you are looking for a fun little change-up from your regular weekend plans with a touch of spooky–a ghost tour might just be for you! Let me know in the comments if you book a ghost tour and in what city!
