While searching for a place to stay before an early morning content shoot with Nora Fleming at The Greenbrier, I came across the Thomas Rose Inn, a beautifully restored boutique inn in the heart of historic Lewisburg, West Virginia. What I expected to be a convenient overnight stay quickly became one of my favorite parts of the trip.
Built in 1804, the Thomas Rose Inn is one of Lewisburg’s oldest homes. Today, it has been thoughtfully restored into an intimate boutique hotel with just three suites, preserving over two centuries of history while offering all the modern comforts you could need.

The Journey to Lewisburg
Sometimes the drive is just as memorable as the destination.
The drive from Richmond to Lewisburg took us west along Interstate 64, passing through Charlottesville before winding into the Blue Ridge Mountains. Mile after mile, the scenery became more breathtaking. The mountains stretched endlessly across the horizon, there was hardly any traffic, and the peaceful drive immediately set the tone for the weekend.
By the time we arrived in Lewisburg, I already felt like I’d slowed down—and somehow, that perfectly matched the pace of the Thomas Rose Inn.
Checking In
Checking in couldn’t have been easier.
Before we arrived, Paula texted me everything I needed, including directions, parking information, and our personalized door code. The contactless check-in process was seamless, making it easy to settle in after several hours on the road.
Parking was conveniently located just behind the inn, and within minutes we were unpacked and ready to explore.
Inside the Thomas Rose Inn
Of the inn’s three suites, my mom and I stayed in Suite Two.
Walking inside, I immediately noticed how beautifully the home’s historic character had been preserved. Original hardwood floors, exposed brick, and cozy touches throughout the suite made it feel warm and inviting without sacrificing modern comforts.
One of my favorite surprises was the heated towel warmer. After showering, it felt like such a luxurious touch. I also loved getting ready the next morning at the separate vanity, which felt like its own little dressing room.

- Smart TV (Mom and I ended the night watching an episode of Chopped before climbing into bed.)

One of my favorite things about staying at the Thomas Rose Inn was simply stepping outside and exploring.
Lewisburg is the historic county seat of Greenbrier County, and its charming downtown is filled with locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, galleries, and beautifully preserved historic buildings.
During our summer visit, American flags lined the streets while overflowing flower baskets hung beneath nearly every lamppost. It felt like something straight out of a Hallmark movie.
Everything is within walking distance, making it easy to spend an afternoon wandering without ever needing your car.

🎡 If you’re visiting in August, don’t miss the State Fair of West Virginia, held just outside Lewisburg in Fairlea. In October, the beloved Taste of Our Towns (TOOT) festival brings local food, music, and community celebrations to downtown, making fall another wonderful time to visit.
