Nordik Spa-Nature Chelsea: The Largest Spa in North America

Tucked into the hills of Chelsea, just outside of Ottawa, Nordik Spa-Nature is not only beautiful—it’s the largest spa in North America.
I visited on a fall trip with my sister, and it quickly became the highlight of our weekend. There’s something about a spa day like this—quiet, intentional, and rooted in nature—that allows you to fully slow down in a way that feels both simple and luxurious.

What Makes Nordik Spa-Nature So Special

Nordik Spa is built around the Nordic thermal cycle—a rhythm of hot, cold, and rest designed to relax the body and reset the mind.
Here’s how it works:
- Begin in a hot pool or sauna
- Move into a cold plunge
- Finish with a rest period in a quiet lounge or by a fire
You repeat this cycle at your own pace, and after a few rounds, you begin to feel a noticeable shift—both physically and mentally.
What sets Nordik Spa-Nature apart is its scale and attention to detail:
- Multiple hot and cold pools surrounded by nature
- Saunas and steam rooms, each offering a slightly different experience
- The Källa saltwater pool, where you float effortlessly in complete stillness
- On-site restaurants and bars with fresh, thoughtfully prepared food
- Countless relaxation spaces, from fire pits to panoramic indoor lounges
You can easily lose track of time here, getting swept away in the many relaxing amenities, dining options, and cozy corners. We loved simply spending time in the pool, chatting with a drink from the bar in hand as the cool mountain breeze drifted around us—it was one of those moments you wish you could bottle up.

The Experience: What to Expect

Just a short 20-minute drive from Ottawa, getting to Chelsea feels seamless. The route is scenic and peaceful, with tree-lined roads that ease you out of the city and into a slower pace before you even arrive. Parking is simple and well-organized, making the entire visit feel effortless from the start.
From the moment you step inside, everything is designed to help you unwind.
You’re given a bracelet for purchases, guided to the locker rooms, and then left to explore at your own pace. Phones are discouraged throughout the spa, which adds to the calm, immersive atmosphere.
We spent hours moving between pools, saunas, and rest areas—never once feeling rushed.
Dining in your robe was a fun experience. We just slipped right into one of the many spots open for lunch on site and ordered a variety of yummy bites. We each ordered something that we all split amongst the three of us–a charcuterie board and two different types of sandwiches that they were able to cut into three for us.

What to Bring to Nordik Spa-Nature

Packing thoughtfully can make your spa day even more enjoyable. Here’s exactly what I recommend:
- Swimsuit
- Flip-flops or sandals
- Hair tie or clip
- Change of clothes
- Makeup and hair tools (optional) – they provide blow dryers
- Sunglasses
- Water bottle
- Cash or card
- Face wash and personal toiletries – shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are provided
- A good book – there are plenty of cozy spots to read and lounge
The locker rooms are clean, spacious, and secure, making it easy to store everything comfortably.
I also recommend taking a full shower before leaving—it’s the perfect way to rinse off after a full day of steam, salt, and soaking.

Tips for First-Time Visitors

- Plan to stay at least 4–6 hours
- Visit on a weekday or earlier in the day for a quieter experience
- Hydrate often between thermal cycles
- Don’t skip the rest phase—it’s essential to the experience
- Book any treatments in advance if you’re interested
All in all…

All in all, Nordik Spa-Nature was such a special experience and one I would absolutely recommend.
It’s the perfect place to slow down, reconnect, and step away from the busyness of everyday life. I left feeling refreshed, grounded, and so grateful we made the trip.
If you are visiting Ottawa anytime soon, I’d highly recommend carving out time during the day to relax at Nordik Spa-Nature Chelsea. It was perfect for our group to spend quality time together but I imagine it would be super relaxing if you were by yourself as well. If you have experienced this spa before, let me know in the comments what your favorite part about it is! ✨
